2nd Annual Family Event a big success
On February 24th we hosted our second annual book fair family event and we had a great turnout. At our family event we offer a free meal, some fun activities for the kids, and of course the book fair is open for shopping. We like to keep it a relaxed and fun environment for the families. We enjoy a meal together in the cafeteria and then from there everyone can browse the book fair and head down to the school gym for activities.
This year’s Scholastic book fair theme was “under the sea” so we challenged our teachers at Blanchard Valley School to a door decorating contest. They did a great job and their awesome classrooms doors really added to our fun evening.
Friends of BVS president receives Everyday Hero award
Friends of BVS has recently been spotlighted in the local news thanks to an award our president, Christina Treece, recently received.
Christina was nominated by her friend Rosita Harper for Free Country’s Everyday Hero Award. The clothing brand Free Country offers this monthly award to honor people making a difference in their local community. Rosita felt that Christina’s work with Friends of BVS exemplified just the type of “hero” that Free Country was looking for. So she submitted her nomination and a little while later Christina was named as the Everyday Hero for the month of March 2015.
